Company Profile
Chubu Electric Power Company, Incorporated is a major electric power company and a pillar of the Chubu business community. Three units at the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Plant are currently shut down. The company's thermal power generation has been integrated with Tokyo Electric Power Company.
Sector
Electric Power & Gas
Chubu Electric Power Company focuses on energy businesses, primarily electricity and gas supply, as its core domain. The company also diversifies into overseas energy projects, related construction and manufacturing industries, and real estate businesses. Established in 1951, it was founded simultaneously with the implementation of Japan's "9 Electric Power Companies System," which divided the country into nine regions, each with a monopoly on power transmission and distribution. Chubu Electric Power's service area has primarily covered the Chubu region, including Aichi Prefecture and areas west of the Fuji River in Shizuoka Prefecture. While Japan's electric power policy has gradually liberalized power generation since 1995 and retail electricity since 2000, with full liberalization implemented in 2016, the transmission and distribution sector still maintains a regional monopoly system. Chubu Electric Power continues to maintain a high market share in its regional power business.
