FX Outlook: All Eyes on Trump's Press Conference and Iran's Ultimatum
The dollar-yen exchange rate is expected to be influenced by U.S. President Trump's press conference and related developments from tonight through tomorrow. The anticipated trading range is \158.80 to \160.00 per dollar.
President Trump has stated that unless Iran agrees to open the Strait of Hormuz by the night of the 7th, he will launch a large-scale attack. He posted on social media "Tuesday, 8 p.m. Eastern Time," which is seen as indicating his intention to strike at 8 p.m. on the 7th (9 a.m. Japan time on the 8th). He has also announced a press conference scheduled for 1 p.m. on the 6th (2 a.m. on the 7th Japan time), with attention focused on what will be said. Tonight, the U.S. ISM Non-Manufacturing Index for March is due to be released.
