Tokyo Stocks (Morning Session) Rise \475 as Semiconductor-Related Shares Gain
The Nikkei Stock Average at the morning close on the 3rd rose \475.35 from the previous day to \52,938.62. Trading volume on the Prime Market in the morning session was approximately 861.76 million shares, with trading value of approximately \2,676.7 billion. The number of advancing issues was 1,180, declining issues numbered 334, and 61 issues remained unchanged.
The Nikkei Stock Average rebounded. In the U.S. stock market the previous day, major stock indices were mixed, but technology stocks rose, with the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOX) posting gains. The Tokyo stock market opened higher, buoyed by this positive sentiment. AI and semiconductor-related stocks advanced, and the Nikkei Stock Average rose by more than \960 at one point. However, with crude oil prices remaining elevated and the March U.S. employment report due for release this evening, gains were capped after initial buying subsided. The exchange rate was moving around \159.60 to the dollar.
Among individual stocks, Kioxia Holdings <285A>, Lasertec corporation <6920>, and ADVANTEST CORPORATION <6857> rose, while Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. <5801> and Fujikura Ltd. <5803> gained. FAST RETAILING CO., LTD. <9983> and Hitachi, Ltd. <6501> traded firmly. On the other hand, SoftBank Group Corp. <9984>, Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, Inc. <8316>, and MODEC,INC. <6269> declined, while Nitori Holdings Co., Ltd. <9843> and CHUGAI PHARMACEUTICAL CO., LTD. <4519> fell.
