Tokyo Stocks (Morning Open) - Continue Higher at Start, Buying Leads on U.S. Stock Gains
The Tokyo stock market opened with buying leading on the 2nd, as the Nikkei Stock Average started at \54,066, up \327 from the previous trading day, continuing its upward trend.
In the U.S. stock market the previous day, all three major indices, including the Dow Jones Industrial Average, rose. Expectations grew that turmoil in the Middle East situation would settle down, following a social media post by U.S. President Trump stating that Iran's president had requested a ceasefire. Economic indicators released the same day also supported the market as concerns over a U.S. economic slowdown receded. Inheriting this momentum, a risk-on mood is likely to continue in the Tokyo market today. However, given that the Nikkei Average surged more than \2,600 the previous day, upside momentum may become heavy once the initial round of buying subsides. A speech by President Trump to the nation is scheduled this morning Japan time, and its content will be closely watched.
