On the 2nd, Nikkei Stock Average <^N225> closed 667.67 yen (-1.25%) lower from the previous weekend to 52,655.18 yen. The number of stocks on Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) Prime gained was 516, lost was 1029, and unchanged was 49. The number of declining stocks significantly exceeded the number of rising stocks.
ADVANTEST <6857> was the highest on the list with a negative contribution of 320.89 yen to The Nikkei. Below, Tokyo Electron <8035> was at 165.46 yen, SoftBank Group Corp <9984> was at 130.76 yen, Lasertec <6920> was at 67.92 yen, KONAMI <9766> was at 38.11 yen.
The top positive contributor was FAST RETAILING <9983>, pushing up The Nikkei by 109.90 yen. This was followed by KDDI <9433> at 22.86 yen, Recruit Holdings <6098> at 15.84 yen, DAIKIN INDUSTRIES <6367> at 13.87 yen, Fujikura <5803> at 9.69 yen.
By industry, 11 of the 33 industries gained. Air Transportation Sector ranked first, followed by Retail Trade Sector, Pharmaceuticals Sector, and Food Products Sector. Securities & Commodities Futures Sector, Mining Sector, and Banks Sector were among the top losers.
