Japan foreign visitors rise 3.5% in March as Middle East arrivals slump - JNTO
The number of foreign visitors to Japan reached an estimated 3,618,900 in March, up 3.5% YoY and marking a record high for the month, the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) said on the 15th. The cumulative total for Jan-March rose 1.4% YoY to 10,683,500, surpassing 10 million for the second straight year.
Demand was bolstered by the start of the cherry blossom season and school holidays tied to Easter. Seven markets, including the U.S., Vietnam, and the UK, hit all-time monthly highs, while 13 others, including Taiwan and South Korea, reached records for the month of March. Conversely, arrivals from China slumped 55.9% YoY to 291,600. Visitors from the Middle East dropped 30.6% to 16,700, weighed down by flight cancellations and reductions amid regional tensions.
