On the 16th, Nikkei Stock Average <^N225> closed 14.62 yen (-0.04%) lower from the previous day to 39,663.40 yen. The number of stocks on Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) Prime gained was 567, lost was 992, and unchanged was 64. The number of declining stocks significantly exceeded the number of rising stocks.

FAST RETAILING <9983> was the highest on the list with a negative contribution of 33.22 yen to The Nikkei. Below, TDK <6762> was at 17.98 yen, Recruit Holdings <6098> was at 13.27 yen, Lasertec <6920> was at 12.76 yen, DAIKIN INDUSTRIES <6367> was at 6.08 yen.

The top positive contributor was Tokyo Electron <8035>, pushing up The Nikkei by 48.62 yen. This was followed by ADVANTEST <6857> at 20.26 yen, KONAMI <9766> at 9.62 yen, DAIICHI SANKYO <4568> at 6.48 yen, Nintendo <7974> at 5.74 yen.

By industry, 8 of the 33 industries gained. Other Products Sector ranked first, followed by Information & Communication Sector, Food Products Sector, and Warehousing & Harbor Transportation Service Sector. Real Estate Sector, Pulp & Paper Sector, and Securities & Commodities Futures Sector were among the top losers.
